The fiftieth annual Burghley Horse Trials attracted world class riders from thirteen countries and all five continents.
After a challenging Dressage test Ruth Edge on Two Thyme led the way followed closely by Caroline Powell on Lenamore and defending champion Oliver Townend and Carousel Quest.
Caroline Powell then produced a foot perfect round to take the lead in the cross country.
In the Showjumping phase despite challenges from Mary King on Apache Sauce, Oliver Townend on Carousel Quest and William Fox-Pitt on Macchiato, Caroline Powell and 17 year old Lenamore forged a foot perfect round to claim their first major title much to the delight of the appreciative crowd.
