The New Point 2 RS Hybrid Jacket is an RS2010 body protector approved to BETA 2010 Level 3 combined with the Point 2 Jacket which carries the European Standard 13158 2009 Level 3 which it meets both inflated and uninflated.
The P2 RS has been developed over the last 18 months with Racesafe and Point 2 and also leading
riders including Oliver Townend and Ruby Walsh.
It inflates at speeds of up to 0.093 of a second, to provide almost instantaneous, enhanced protection to all the major thoracic and upper abdominal organs, the spine and the collar of the neck.
The P2 RS is more comfortable, convenient and nearly 20% lighter than using a separate body protector and air jacket which is currently required in UK competition.
The P2-RS works in exactly the same way as the Point Two ProAir. A lanyard attached to the jacket is clipped onto a lead fixed to the horses saddle. Once the rider leaves the saddle during a fall, the lanyard detaches itself from the P2-RS, triggering the release of CO2 gas from a canister.
It is fully reusable, and requires servicing annually or after every six falls.
In 0.093 of a second, the air bag inflates on the outside of the body protector, offering almost instantaneous, enhanced protection to all the major thoracic and upper abdominal organs, the spine and the collar of the neck. It also helps guard against crushing injuries in the event of a rotational fall.
The P2-RS will hold a rider tight for 10 seconds and then slowly deflate, in exactly the same way as the ProAir. Rigorous checks have been made on the inflated P2-RS to ensure it did not impede riders should they need to roll away from danger when on the ground.
Tests have shown that the airbag system can also help prevent impact damage to the foams cell structure, by cushioning the blow in a fall. This will increase the service life of body protectors, when used in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.
Sizing is the same as Racesafe body protectors.
